I accidentally hit defragment on my ssd for the first time. I know your not suppose to do that on an ssd because it can really shorten the life of it. I ment to defrag my gaming hard drive to speed it up but didnt pay attention to which hard drive I hit and now I feel so stupid. I just bought a samsung 840 evo 250 gb less than a month ago and now it says that it is 8% complete on defrag for the ssd so I stopped it and I am freaking out. Will this do any harm to the ssd or am I just overreacting.

Solution
It's not a huge deal. It just took a very small bit of write endurance out of your ssd. You'll most likely not have any issues unless you keep it for over 10 years.

It isn't good for it, but I think it's not going to destroy it. As long as you stopped it.

That said, especially if you're running Windows 7, check that you have your SSD set up properly (TRIM, AHCI, etc.) By default, W7 will not defrag a drive if it detects these sorts of things. If you're running XP:
Dafuq you doing on XP with an SSD?
