Well I was running 15 mbps for 40$ a month but I upgraded to 30 mbps for 72$ a month for a better gaming experience, so was 15 mbps good enough or am I waisting the money on the upgrade and really dont need it? Or is it better to have 30 mbps for gaming for the price?

More about : mbps speed gaming upgrading worth

Download speed doesn't have a huge impact on your gaming; it's more about how long it takes to get updates.

Ping is much more important

High speeds are still damn nice, though.

ty! I mean the 15 was pretty fast and my ping is about the same it usually was with the 15. So thats why I asked if it was worth paying 40$ more when I dont really see a big performance boost.. my ping in call of duty is usally about 80.

You really only need the speed/bandwidth to download patches or the games themselves. Some games load extra data..ie a bunch of graphic overlays...when you first log in.

Still one you get going the game really is only sending position data for you and other players. It does not send the actual images of the stuff you see on the screen. It just send some command like display object 1234 and you computer goes and find the picture of object 1234 on your hard drive where the game is installed and displays it.

Games are generally designed to allow even people with very slow connection to play. The game company wants as many customers as possible so it would be silly on their part to require people to have 100m connection to play. Games like WoW can still be played over dialup phone modems...very poorly though.

If you actually measure the traffic rates most games are well under 1m/sec.

The main reason you might want more bandwidth is if you had other things running on the same internet connection. We see posts here all the time about other people in the house watching say netflix and degrading someone gaming and how to fix it. Also if you use one of the many voice communication packages or if you do stuff like live stream the video you also need more bandwidth.

Only you can make the call on if it is worth the money

While you can never have too much bandwidth, if you were getting a consistent 15 before, and the finances are a consideration, the upgrade to 30 is probably not going to be worth the premium.
