I got a new SSD and I want to do a clean install of Windows 8 on it. I am planning to buy a copy of Windows 8.1 on the Microsoft site and download it because of the student discount.
I am currently running Windows 7 on my HDD and lost the driver disks for my motherboard and drivers.
Is it possible at all to install Windows 8 onto the new SSD from the my HDD I am currently using?

I'm sorry I'm not too clear on the definition of a clean install.
Would it be better to download a copy of the Windows 8 install then create an image and burn it to a DVD then install it after I unplug the HDD?
I've looked around and some places say I need the driver disks for my motherboard because I do not know where any of the disks are.

A clean install means you install the OS on a newly formatted drive/partition.

yes it will be better to download win 8 and than install it from a flash drive / DVD (flash drive is much faster if it is a good one)

for the drivers all you need to do is look up the your motherboard model and than just Google it.
