Hey guys im venturing down the path of using a car radiator and other cheap parts for a jerry rigged watercooling setup. after looking it up ive seen that a lot of people silver solder the fittings directly to the radiator or a pipe. my question is what are water cooling fittings made out of? i have access to a TIG welder and it would be a lot easier and quicker to use it instead of silver soldering. Google says that theyre made out of brass then get a coating (silver, black etc). Is this true?

What's on the radiator now?

Most would already have either a 1 1/4" ~ 1 1/2" or 3/8" ~ 3/4" fittings pre-soldered to hose clamp fit matching hoses?

In that case all you'll need is either brass or nylon reducers to drop the size to fit the tubing you want to run?

Is this a new or used radiator and what fittings does it already have?

You have to be extremely careful even attempting to do any welding on a radiator it's typically hot soldered using acid flux.

Then thoroughly flushed out to remove any residue that will contaminate the rest of the system water loop.
