Hi All,

I've got an issue that I need help with, I have a asrock z77 extreme 6 mobo and have been running a pentium g640 for about a year now with no issues. I tried to upgrade to an i5 3570k a few weeks back and every time I tried to start it up it returned the error 0x0. I assumed the cpu was faulty and sent it back, the seller reckons they tested it and it was working fine! however they gave me a refund.

Because I've gotten into 3D CAD recently I decided to get an i7 3770k instead of an i5 off of a very reliable source. I tried to fit it last night and it returned 0x0 for a few seconds then restarted then mostly returns 0x7 but I have seen 0x9, 0x2 and 0x3 error codes every now and again. I took it down to the bare bones with one ram stick (G.Skill Sniper series) that is on the compatibility list, my psu (Corsair gs700) and the cpu, reset the cmos and still getting the error. For a test I put my g640 back in and it booted into the bios instantly, but with the i7 I just get a blank screen.

Am I doing something wrong? I can't see any bent pins, I've seated the i7 properly. Is it possible that the g640 has pushed the pins to far down and they're not making contact correctly or something? I am 100% sure its the motherboard opposed to the cpu as both cpus can't be naff. I don't know why it will load my g640 and not my i7 though. I have got an old lenovo lga1155 mobo lying around I'm going to test the i7 on tonight but any advice in the mean time would be appreciated.

Thanks

You could try an update of the mobo's software/BIOS/firmware/whatever it's called.

Had this problem once with another mobo and after an update the mobo recognized the CPU and it worked flawlessly.

Thanks for the reply, I have updated my bios to 2.80 which as far as I know is the newest version :/
