I'd go for Sapphire Tri X 4GB R9 290 or R9 290X, its a value for money either either way. A 290X is definitely better than a 290. Go for the Sapphire 4GB R9 290X if your budget allows :)

Wait for the GTX 880 to be released next month. It is currently rumored to be $450 and is expected to pwn the GTX 780 Ti and R9-290X.

If you read it it says that it's like a 770 but looks differently, so, it can't 'pwn' the 780 ti

A rumored 880 with 256 bit arc and 224 GB/s bandwidth can never ever beat a 384 bit 780 Ti with 336 Gb/s bandwidth in any terms.

The performance jump from a 780 Ti to an 880 is arguable since the gap between Fermi and Kepler was massive. The 680 destroyed the 580 despite being a 256-bit GPU and using GK104 compared to the 580's 384-bit GF110 build. So I would expect Maxwell to do the same.

But do you expect it to be in the same price range as the 780 Ti? I fear it'd be a very high end card with really good specs and really good price.

No these are all just speculation, just wait for them to be released but the 880 is like a 770
