54 gb's of fragmented files

So yeah guys I have finally come to defrag my harddrive, I've had this drive for almost 7 month and haven't even ran a defrag once, I built a new gaming pc in December of last year so the drive is relatively new.

So yeah I have just run the defrag program which is Piriform defraggler and it has calculated 54.0 gb's of fragmented files, and my god is it taking long.

The main question I want to ask is, does anyone know or use a faster defragmenter?

Use the Windows preloaded disk defragmenter. Microsoft knows the Windows file system better than ANY third party software.

Disk defragmenting always takes a while simply because HDDs are relatively slow and fragmented = lots of time spent seeking, which means performance gets hit specially hard.

To defrag 54GB of data, the defragger will end up having to shuffle over 200GB and with fragmented files, that could take a few hours.

What OS are you on that still doesn't auto defrag?

I remember these days back in Windows XP, I still have this from time to time on my Windows Home Server (2003) but it is very rare to have fragmented files in 2014 as windows 7 defrags automatically in the background.

Microsoft says their speed is about 5-10 GB/ hr depending on CPU and RAM. I'd hope Windows Defrag utility will do it in about 7-10 hours on an idle PC.

Personally, I do not bother with defragmentation: it takes much too long, makes the HDD work horribly hard for way too many hours at a time, the benefits are often not all that obvious and it often does not take long before you "need" to start over.
