Hello,

I was just wondering, what kind of fps should I expect to get in Planetside 2 with these specs:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qZjygs

-Settings are 1920 x 1080 1080p

-CPU at stock speed (Not overclocked due to no aftermarket cooler)

-Vsync is on due to screen tearing.

And also, what settings can I expect to play this smoothly on (Ultra, high, etc.?) with mainly a solid 60 fps if possible and above 40 fps in large battles? (Keep in mind vsync is on)

I just want to know if I can run this well on some pretty decent graphics settings with this rig, I'm not sure if the game relies heavily on single core performance though which will be bad for me considering my fx 6300.

Thank you.

EDIT:

Well I can run everything on max except for shadows and flora is set to low. But in big fights my fps drops to like 15, so idk what else to do lol, really wish I would have went with intel, amd cpus are a scam and can't run any games =(

I also had to turn vsync off because screen tearing wasn't that noticeable.

fyi Planet side is a nvidia game mainly. You should be able to on medium 45 fps when you first start to log in to the warp station but after that in a battle it might dip to 30 or 25 because of cpu stress in battle. If this pc is just for planetside a good cpu is needed more than the gpu.

I would seriously reconsider and AMD CPU if PS2 is your primary focus. I run PS2 on my 3570k beside a machine running on a 965BE and the difference is night and day once the battles start to really pick up. You can turn down textures a bit and turn off AA to really speed up the GPU portions, but you can never really turn down the number of people in a battle.

I really wish more MMO style games would release benchmarking tools to allow for better comparisons, but I would be willing to bet that the Pentium G3258 overclocked, or fast i3 like the 4370 would destroy the fx-6300 in games like Planetside 2.

My secondary machine is a 965BE (@3.8Ghz) with a 7850 on a similar monitor (I think it was the 2250, but it's a BenQ MVA panel). I haven't done much benchmarking since I switched it from a 6870 to the 7850 (which was a hand-me-down from another machine) where you would expect something like a 10-20% improvement. At the time I just used the instant action button to find a fight and recorded fraps min/max/average speeds but the difference after changing out the video card wasn't even detectable. The difference was easily shown in benchmarking tools but actual usage where it mattered it turned out the CPU couldn't keep up anyway so there wasn't much point.

That was quiet a while ago, so I can't remember the exact settings I used, but generally I tweak my own settings in game to turn off extra things that distract from the game play in order to get better performance.

You can also read some details here: http://www.hardwarepal.com/planetside-2-cpu-benchmark/

Yeah I heard about that. I tried it a while ago with other games but not planetside 2. I also heard that the parking problem was fixed in windows 8 and I'm on windows 8.1 so I don't think it will work for me.

Oh I already have this pc, this is my current rig. I was just asking before I download a huge file haha. I kind of wish I went with intel because in a lot of mmo's I play like TERA, Firefall, Defiance, etc. I get huge frame drops and stuff mostly because they are cpu intensive and also don't utilize more than 1 or 2 cores which is bad for a fx 6300, especially at stock like mine since I have no aftermarket cooler and also I have to turn vsync on for all games or else I get bad screen tearing.

I would think the easiest way to improve performance is to just grab an aftermarket cooler and crank up the speed of the CPU a bit. Going to a 4Ghz is a 500Mhz jump over stock or about 14%, which you should see a pretty good improvement on your minimum frame rates.

Yeah, maybe when I get enough money I will try that, but for now I am just going to turn down some settings since I don't have any money on me.
