do you like the sound of Ultra High Definition (3840x2160)? Or do you prefer QHD monitors (1440p)?

I was looking at UHD monitors the Samsung U28D590D caught my eye and I really want to press the buy button but I don't know if my rig will even be able to put out the 60fps that is limited by the 60hz refresh rate. I have crossfire r9 290's OC to 980mhz but I don't think they will be able to maintain those frames at Ultra settings, maybe I can convince myself to play at very high, but then there are all the scaling issues with game menus and they appear extremely small and barely readable, so to answer your question yes I would prefer QHD but I am considering UHD.

I have that monitor and game with it on my R9 290X, BF4 ultra with no AA it gets above 50FPS when it's clocked @ 1295MHz core clock, which for that card is insane. I would get that monitor and a second graphics card, then you'll be fine for now.

I already have 2 r9 290's, so I should be great then? Also I will OC them to 1000Mhz once I complete my water-cooling loop so that will be even better. You said you don't have AA on, is it even necessary at 4k res? Does the picture look amazing even without AA?

yes, it certainly does, compared to my FHD monitor beside it that is, with 4X MSAA on. I would get a third R9 290, just for the heck of it, 4k is quite demanding on the graphics card, and though the scaling isn't the absolute best, it'll be even better.

Oh I would love to get a third r9 290, unfortunately I only have a Maximus VI Gene MAtx and it only has 2 PCIe 16 slots :/  oh well. Anyway you have convinced me. Samsung U28D590D it is! Thanks heaps for the quick replies you were a real help.

You could sell it and get a new board + R9 290 + Monitor and still be within $1200..? Just a suggestion, but the Samsung monitor is great, and does run 60Hz, but you must use a display port cable.

I only have a Corsair rm850w PSU I would have to bump that up to 1200w and buy a new case cause I only have a corsair 350d Matx case. Replacing all that is too much of a bother, I will just wait till r9 295x2 start selling at $700 second hand and I will take an r9 290 out and put that in and then buy an EVGA 1300w PSU. That way I can at least keep the case and the mobo.

I'm sure it will be, especially going to the newly released 4k gaming experience. Enjoy!
