I've heard good things about AMD and Intel, and I can't decide wether I should get an Intel core i5 4430 or an AMD FX-8320. I was hoping to Max out games like Evolve, Slender: The Arrival, and BF Hardline at at least 720p. Which will get me better performance?

Solution
your going to get a lot of fanboyism in this thread, so here goes my option, short and simply - intel i5 4670/4690 or if you want to overclock i5 4670k/4690k. That said there is nothing wrong with AMD's 8 core beasts.

Splendid
The i5 4430 will get more fps in games its single threaded performance is a lot better and its not a dead socket like the fx, meaning new CPUs will be made for its motherboard without replacing them. Go Intel in the long run you will be glad you did

Here we go again.....LOL....fanboys fanning the fire....LOL.

I have both a core i7-3770k and an AM 8320 on my desk - performance wise - both are about the same for 95% of the things I throw at it. You will actually get more bang for the buck in a GPU for gaming....

That being said, take a look at the GPUs, select what you want, then take a look at motherboards that work well with that video card in your price range....at that point - the processors that are compatible with the mobo is the one you get. BTW - most mobos work well with most GPUs.....

So the point - pick the GPU and then find a great deal on either the 8320 or the i5's.....

I'm not really a computer expert ( I'm in 7th grade) so I think I'll just stick with the core i5

Ok. I think I'll go AMD. But should I get the FX 6300 or the FX 8320 or the Athelon x4

If you want to use the pc for gaming and other everyday use, do yourself a favour and go with the I5 and a h97 motherboard. It's cheaper than amd and doesn't need an aftermarket cooler.
The 8320 would yield more multi core performance, but unless you're rendeeing you won't really notice a difference. For games or other programs that use 4 or less threads, the I5 will dominate. It also lets you save on the electricity bill.

I would stay stick with an i5 unless you have a budget then get a powerful AMD, but you may be able to buy an older model i5 off the internet...I have an i5 2300 and I can still use any card and my CPU now is around £100 and not much of a performance drop in any games! AMD's in my opinion are good for rendering and overclocking for the hell of it, but Intel CPU's usually are better. I have had an AMD and Intel and I have prefered Intel since switching from AMD Athlon x4 something or nother!! Even if it is not a 'amazing' K series you can still do minor overclocking and not bottleneck or loose performance in many games!!

This "8 core processor" thing seriously annoys me so much.
Amd bulldozer cpu's consist of 4 modules, each module has two 128 bit floating point units, to be combined to one 256bit one. Each of the lesser floating point units has two integer clusters, each owning two alu's.
One module (= "2 cores) more or less equals one (intel) core with hyperthreading. It's more or less a physical form of what i7's do logically.

Now about the "best choice for gaming". Most games will use a maximum of 4 threads at once, so one module of the amd cpu is more or less half as effective. The i5 on the other side doesn't have that problem and reveals it's strength in single core performance. Hell, for most games an i3 haswell is preferable over a 8350fx.

exactly, though it is not that bad. The FX 8 core processors only exceed noticeably when the games are well threaded, if they are not expect even the i3's to do better. That said, there are many poorly threaded games to list, so the intel CPU's are the better choice, Hence the reason why I went for my 4930k, as no AMD CPU can match that for my work, and there are AMD CPU's that cost the same, but they are the 220W 5GHz "8-cores", which are just matches of intel 6 (real) cores in price and not performance.
