old genesis/snes game

Anold rpg adventure game where you played as a boy and would collect animals that followed you and fought along side you... I want to say it's like "legacy of..." our "legend of..." but I can't find it.... it was kind of like Zelda in a way... any help?

Hmmmm....I'm going full-guess here...
- Seiken Densetsu (also known as Secret of Mana, had animals but I'm not sure you could command them...)
- Bahamut Lagoon (had dragons you could command, but it's a tactical turn based...still, worth a try I guess)
- Brain Lord (had a "familiar" based system. You would find pets inside gems and could summon them to come to your aid)

Took me a while to recall these, and Brain Lord might actually be it...

Played many snes games, but can't recall anything regarding animals following you and fighting alongside you. Haven't played many genesis ones although...

The only things that come to mind with animals (or rather, monsters), are Legend of Legaia and Jade Cocoon, but those are from psx.
