How to monitor my data usage for specific website.

Hi everyone,

I am trying to measure specifically how much data usage for a specific website, especially video streaming and audio streaming website.

For example: For youtube or twitchtv, i like to have an app or a software that shows me how much it is downloading when a video is played (on various quality).

I noticed most programs, BitMeter OS or NetLimiter or NetWorx, which measures bandwidth on a computer basis. If possible, I would like an app or a program that measures a specific webpage (browser tab) how mcuh data is consuming.

If someone can help me, that will be super!

This is not an easy task. What if www.abcdef.com' web page pulls video from 123.45.67.89 IP address? Such a program would have no way to associate the traffic from 123.45... to abcdef.com.

On Windows 8, you can open Performance monitor, and on Network tab, you will see each program (not each website, or each tab)' network traffic.

thanks for your input. I was wondering if there's an extension on Chrome or App on FF and IE where it can monitor traffic based on the website. I thought that would be easy to figure out. I guess so far no one has developed anything like that.

I don't know if there is some pc program that can do this. I would look at software that is used for parental control, maybe like K9 even though it is designed to filter traffic it may have enough information logged to find this.

I know the way it is commonly done is with a proxy server. Depending on which you use and which if any content filter packages you have you can get reports on how much traffic is going to individual sites like facebook or to general categories such as social networking which includes many sites. It would be quite a challenge I suspect to install a proxy server on the same machine as the browser. Of course if you are willing to use a dedicated server there are likely other way in addition to a proxy server to get the information you want.
