I currently have the HIS IceQ Turbo Radeon HD 6950 video card in my PC, but am looking to swap it out with a HIS iPower IceQ X² Boost Clock Radeon R9 280X. I haven't made the purchase because of the listed wattage requirements, but I've also seen some people mention that they managed to get the Radeon R9 280X working fine with sub-700W PSUs. If someone could quickly check my listed specs and let me know if this could be possible in my case, that would be great!

Feel free to ask any other questions.

Here is my current build:

  • ■ Corsair TX 650W PSU
    ■ Intel Core i7 4770K 3.5GHz (not overclocked)
    ■ 16GB RAM
    ■ ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO motherboard
Thank You!

Solution
The Corsair TX 650W is more than capable of doing the job. It could even handle some of the Radeon R9 290X cards on the market.

I appreciate the really fast response from the three of you - and the fact that everyone is confident in the Corsair TX 650W is very encouraging, too.

If this is the case, I may go ahead with the purchase so I can have a new video card to install this Friday! :D

Any additional feedback is still appreciated, so please keep them coming.

So an update: I've installed the R9 280X - it works perfectly with my rig, the 650W PSU handling it (along with everything else) like the workhorse it is! Thanks again, everyone, for your support! =D

In my case, the card is quieter than the case fans I have, even during intense gaming sessions.
