With the automatic restart disabled, it closed down again. Next step?
Whoops! I tried again to replicate the shut down, while I was in the BIOS. This time, rather than shaking it, I set it down on the table beside me and two times out of three it shut down. Does that say it's a hardware issue? If so, what do I do now. It's out of waranty.
Oh? Well from what I've been reading, it is a hardware related issue. But there are a few more things we can try to find a solution.
1. On the bottom of your laptop, you should see a raised circle part near the middle. What you need to do is tap on that with a battery or a back of a screwdriver lightly in the middle and around the edges. Then you need compressed air or a dust off spray can and do light bursts into the intake slots on the bottom front and side. This clears any dust sticking to the cpu fan. Boot up and see if it happens again, if it does, lets move on to number 2.
2. You can try a "Capacitor Clear". For this, you just need to detach the battery from the laptop and then hold the power button for about 30 seconds. Once done, put the battery back in without the AC adapter and boot up. If it happens, try booting up with the AC adapter plugged in.
If both of these fail, I am at a loss to what else we can do. The only thing I would recommend at that point is to find another laptop. I wouldn't recommend Acer for anything really. I have had nothing but issues with their products. Asus makes very nice products and aren't very expensive.
Keep me updated.
