Intel i7 4790k @ 1.24v questions

Recently I purchased a i7 4790k, a ASUS maximus VII Hero Z97 and a Corsair H105. I did a bit of research and I ended up using Intel Extreme Tuning Utility to stress my CPU. Prime95 I'm sure works fine I haven't played with it enough to know how to set it properly, OCCT just shot up my temps probably selected a setting within Linpack that caused that. So again I did a Intel Extreme test for 24 hours and had no issues at 1.24 volts with my 4790k. My main question though is my temps haven't really moved a ton one way or the other. I started at 1.3 and the temps were too high then I moved down to 1.25 temps were pretty good and then moved down to 1.24 and that seems to be the sweet spot. My low temps seem to be the same regardless what I do in the ballpark of 38-40C and then my average 68-70 and my highs 75-80. This all taken place in a hot summer in California. My house is kept at 79 F so there isn't much in terms of added help cooling wise.

So, my question's are.

1.) Should I expect my temps to dip a bit when it gets a bit colder ambient wise?
2.) 1.24v from what I gather is pretty good for 4.6 ghz no?

Probably about the same as my house maybe a little hotter given that my door is normally closed 79 degrees F. During off months where it gets colder 72-78 outside I'd expect maybe for my temps to drop a bit more. Yes I meant Idle my low temps. At stock when my CPU at idle would sit at around 34-36.

Yea those are pretty high idle temps (about 5-8c higher than it should be)... you might want to reapply thermal paste make sure you don't put too much or too little... and once you put it on don't take it off the check how it spread - this will cause air bubbles and higher temps... a rice to pea size dot of thermal paste in the center is all you need.

That is what I did. I ended up using IC Diamond 24 QT as well and I took a picture of the spread and people on another forum said it looked okay curious what you think. After I took this picture I cleaned it with artic silver cleaner and purifier and then re applied.

Looks like you used the right amount... I'd make sure when you put the CPU cooler on you try to apply it as level as you can... seems you might have put the top edge down first then put the bottom down causing it to push to much thermal paste to one side of the CPU and not covering the top portion.

That's fair I'll go ahead and clean it and re apply it and see if it makes a difference. I believe I went straight down the 2nd time but I'll check I may have the same result as the first mounting. I'll report back after.

Also as a side note I have changed my overclock to adaptive now that my voltage was validated. With the offset to + 0.050.

Update: So I went ahead and cleaned and re-seated the 4790k my temps after a couple of hours have dropped a bit. My idle temps have gone down to as low as 34. This while my Noctua NF-12's hover around 1000 rpm. I'm fairly satisfied with my temps I haven't see anything near the ballpark of under 30 for my processor and if other people have for there's that is awesome :)

for your high iddle temp try to use adaptive voltage not manual. Also go to power menagement and make sure you are on normal use not on performence it will downvolt and downclock the cpu at idle ;)
