Hi, Im picking the parts for my Budget gaming rig,
i want to get as best GPU performance as i can, i am looking at the XFX 3GB R9-280x, But the CPU im looking at is Intels latest Haswell refresh, 3.5Ghz Dual core 4 threads I3-4150, will i see a bottleneck here? i know its not the best CPU,
what sort of FPS will i see in BF4 Ultra and Watch Dogs on Ultra?? (i have 8GB RAM)

More about : bottleneck

no you will not notice any bottleneck with your config....well you will have a good card so based on it i wil say around 70 - 80 fps in bf4 & in watch dogs 50 - 60 ...

dont get a dual core.
if brand dosent matter much and youre more into gaming then get the amd fx 6300 instead, its the best cheap alternative.
the processor can be a bottleneck
also be sharp on ram
atleat 6-8gb

if u are going to heavy overclock the processor then get the fx 6300 or stay with i3 4150 it has much better single core performance about 60% more stronger than the fx 6300 and has hyper threading for multitasking plus i3 have a max tdp of 54watt and fx 6300 have a max tdp of 94 watt so lot of difference in power consumption ..i3 4150 have Intel hd gfx 4400 but fx series doesn't comes with inbuilt gpu ...so if u dont want a overclocking cpu then go with i3 and if u are into overclocking and want to get best out of the cpu then go with the 6300..

ok do one thing, get the fx 6300 with gtx 760 and you'll be able to play games like watch dogs on ultra at around 45-55fps maybe more.

As many have suggested, either go i3 or 6300. Here's why:

The i3: If you don't wish to stress your PC much (OC) and be light on wattage, get this one.

The 6300: If you wish to OC, and don't mind some extra watts consumed, get this one.

Assuming the GPU and RAM are constant:

BF4 with i3: Good single core performance but the game is optimized for multi cores, so I'd say 60-70 FPS on High and maybe 50+ FPS on Ultra. Very good performance.

BF4 with 6300: As i said, multi core will take the lead here, so around 70-80 FPS on High and 60-70 on Ultra. Excellent performance.

Watch Dogs (WD) on i3: Its a very poorly PC optimized game, but since the i3 has powerful cores, I'd say 50-60 FPS on High and 40+ FPS on Ultra.

WD on 6300: They have admittedly low single core performance, so no more than 45-55 FPS on High and a lowly 35-45 FPS on Ultra.

I'd prefer the i3, the strong GPU will make sure the CPU isn't stressed too much for not being quad or more.
And also powerful single cores will make sure you don't regret buying a dual core.

BUT

If you do OC, then FX 6300 undoubtedly, it'll be a gem of a CPU for those games which require more cores and good performance.

Hope this helps.

im sorry but i3 is dual core even though per core architecture is great it still wont be able to deliver 40+ fps on watchdogs,
please check specs the game specifically needs quadcore or more.
I know what you're saying ... anyways
and yea youre into gaming with a budget?
get the amd fx6300 else i5

Look at the GPU there. I don't say i3 is the best for running Watch Dogs, no it isn't, but if you have one, it can surely run Watch Dogs with the mentioned GPU at High with 50 or so FPS no doubt in that.

And by saying it needs atleast a quad, you're indicating that the many people who have ran this game on i3 4th gen or maybe even 3rd, are lying.
The game is very CPU hungry but mind that the games of this gen don't have pure multi core optimization.

This simply means it needs a quad with good performance or a dual with excellent performance and great architecture, the latter being the i3.

The FX 6300 is well in budget but getting an i5 is like adding $100 to it which I don't think is the asker's plan.
