Intel G3258 - Won't POST after installing G3258

Hi!

I had my system booting just fine 2 days ago, and this was the build:

Intel i3-4330
ASUS H87I-Plus
Gigabyte R9 270
8GB GSkill RAM
Corsair CS450

I sold the i3, and bought a G3258 (sidegrade I guess, but wanted to O'C!). I popped the G3258 in, put on the heatsink, and the fans run and everything, but it won't display anything on the screen.

Took out the CPU and heatsink, checked for bent motherboard pins (none), took out R9 270, and it's not booting. I am 99% sure that I upgraded the BIOS to the version that supports the G3258.

The only thing that I changed was the CPU. The computer isn't even letting out any beep codes, what does that mean?

Could I have a bad CPU?

Any input would be very appreciated.

Just edited my previous post. Sorry!

Buying an old G3220 sounds like a good idea. It sounds like you may have flashed the wrong BIOS, or it didn't flash correctly. :(

Oh dear.. So you no longer have the i3 available to use? It sounds like you didn't update the BIOS to one that supports the G3258. Also, you can't overclock with that board anyway, so it really was a downgrade unfortunately.
You'll need a Z97 board like the ASRock Anniversary Edition to OC the G3258. :)

EDIT; turns out you CAN OC the G3258 with that board. Are you sure this is the BIOS you updated to?

No, with the ASUS boards you can overclock. http://rog.asus.com/251652013/news/asus-bios-update-enables-h87-and-b85-overclocking-motherboards/

I'll probably buy an old G3220 on ebay or something and then try and boot it up.

I put it on a USB drive and flashed it with whatever BIOS flasher is in the ASUS BIOS. I may have flashed a older version, or maybe my G3258 is bad, and I will see all that with a G3220.

I just ordered a G3220, and I will check everything again and get back to you.

Yeah thanks! In all the confusion and stress, I accidentally put the BIOS battery in the wrong way... I pulled it out pretty quickly, and the board is still turning on fans and everything, but any chance I screwed anything up by doing that?

Nope, nothing. I'm really leaning towards a faulty CPU, but isn't that nearly impossible with Intel and their quality control?

Anyway, a lot more will be revealed when the G3220 comes.

Ran into the same issue while building a PC for my Parents. The G3258 is not supported out of the box so some updates are needed. Flashing the bios with a usb drive will not work. You will need an older CPU and install Windows. You will need to use the Bios (ver 2001) updater tool from ASUS as well as the Intel Management Engine update. You will then be able to switch the CPU's. These are the instructions i received from ASUS support and it worked. Parents are now rockin a pretty nice PC. Hope this helps.

How far did you overclock it and what cooler did you use?
