I recently overclocked my brand spankin new 4690K to a light 4.3 ghz and it was all fine until I got about 30 minutes in game. I found that my memory controller couldnt keep up with games which would lead to game breaking hangs among other things. I tried OCing the ram from 1600 to 1866 with a little success, the games no longer hang but now the fps have been halved.

I still believe this to be a Northbridge issue, yet I realized on my version of the Gigabyte Dualbios, there is no option to change NB freq (or even FSB for that matter) in the bios. I read on Amandtech that the way he achieved it is to turn his BCLK up and it worked all around it, only problem is every time I try a new setting to do it this way, windows gets corrupted and I have to repair which takes forever.

Is there a way to up my NB Freq in the OS? Is there some other issue thats making this happen that Im missing completely? Will it be solved if I just go out and buy faster ram? This is my second OC, but the first one i've really sunk a lot of time into learning everything I can. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Intel i5 4690K - OC'd 4.3 ghz, vcore 1.265
Gigabyte Z97N - WIFI
Corsair Vengeance LP 2X4 GB 1600 mhz, 1.5v - OC'd 1866, 1.60v
EVGA GeForce GTX 660ti SC
Noctua NH-C14
EVGA Hadron Air Case + 500 80 Plus Gold PSU
WD Blue 750GB 7200RPM HD

What makes you think the memory controller is the issue?

Intel's Northbridge is no longer called north bridge it is called "IHA" Intel Hub Architecture . It is now located inside teh CPU on Intel CPU's and will be controlled through your Easy Tune CPU OC settings in the BIOS.

I troubleshooting all the other components including GPU, and even basically rebuilt the computer with another motherboard and had no issues there. Tried disabling audio which I had heard helps but to no avail. I am certain my OC is stable on this rig, ran Aida64 for over 8 hours and nothing. Tried Memtest86+ and Memtest86, both came up with no errors. Temps under load hover around 68c so thats not it either.

All those tests led me to believe this is the problem, but if you have other ideas please let me know. I thought it might be a PSU issue but im fairly certain it has more than enough juice to handle everything, and when I did finally mess with the memory trying to oc it, it got better, not worse. Only FPS are struggling now.

Thank you soooo much, I'll try it out and update you all on if it solved it or not so if anyone else has this problem, they know the answer.

For the DRAM might raise the CPUVTT voltage a hair (+0.05) and if raising the BCLK 1-2 try adding about +0.06 to the VCCSA (System Agent voltage)

I took your advice on raising the VCCSA voltage as well as the CPU IO Analog and Digital voltage. I made them all + .25 and im a little over hour two of the test which is by far the longest its run without having serious hangs since I've started this venture. At this point its safe to say it was indeed the answer to the issue. Just hoping i didnt go a bit too high with those voltages, so i might bring em down a bit.

Anyways, thanks a lot!
