Is now a good time to buy CPUs?

I was googling AMD 2014-2015 CPU roadmaps and it looks like the FX-9590 is the end of the Vishera CPU line, with AMD possibly releasing a FX-8300. It also looks like AMD will be expanding on the APU in the future... I was thinking about buying a FX-6300 or FX-8350 in the next few weeks.

Intel on the other hand is continuing along with Haswell and Xeon CPUs into 2015 and then switching over to broadwell. Is now a bad time to buy a CPU in general?

Should I wait until next gen CPUs are released and buy one, or buy an FX or i5-4000 series then since prices should drop a small amount with the release of the new CPUs?

Its always a good time to buy components as long as you have the funds!!! One can sit on the sidelines debating when to buy or sell for a very very VERY long time. If you need the system now simply go out and get what you require. If not then hats off to you and sit and wait.

I'm waiting so I can build up more money to buy a PC with. I'd rather buy a $1000 PC with next gen parts and have it last me 5-7 years before I need to buy a new one, then buy a $600 one that can barely run today's games, and have to upgrade the whole thing in 2-3 years.

no pc is going to be that good in 5-7 yrs maybe medium settings in 4yrs with a high end gpu but a high end gpu will suck in 7 yrs

I'll still upgrade parts, I just don't want to have to buy a new PC. The comp I'm using now is 8 years old, I've just been upgrading parts as new games come out. But I'm almost at the end of the AM3 line and I think it's time for a new PC.

wow 8yrs thats a long time. but i see you upgraded like the mobo or cpu, etc over time.

I'm still rocking a 6 year old system, the only thing I have been able to upgrade is RAM recently but I got an I7 940 + HD 4870 pushing custom mid-high settings on Arma 3 haven't overclocked or nothin.

I too share the concern with the OP as It is time to upgrade for myself and I made the mistake of introducing my mother to Skyrim. I can wait until late 2015 but she is getting anxious with her 5 - 10 FPS potato notebook, and this is what I was afraid of with the new tech coming down the pike. > http://bit.ly/1skW2DH

All in all I see it as if I wait at least until mid 2015 I should see major savings on components with the new titan and DDR4 coming out next year, but If I can't build a system that will last me at least 6 more years I may not be able to bite the bullet.

My Specs:
ASUS P6T Deluxe mobo
I7 Quad 940 2.93Ghz
Radeon HD 4870 1Gb
12Gb DDR3 1333 Tri. Chan.

I just upgraded my i7-930 OCed to 3.9GHz a month ago. The faster sataIII and new 4790K OCed to 4.6 Ghz is noticeably faster. Look for good deals and you can still build a good computer with what is available now. If your X58 mobo was like mine, the supposed sataIII ports did not work as well as the native Intel sataII ports.
