Port Forwarding but Port Still Closed

I am trying to port forward to set up a server but when I go to a port forwarding checker it says that the port is closed. I've tried many things including making a rule in windows firewall for tcp and udp for that specific port. I've disabled the firewall completely. I've tried using another port. I've tried putting my computers ip in the DMZ and enabling it. I am running windows 7. I have a D-link DIR-850L router. (Hardware version A1, Firmware version 1.10WW) I am trying to open port 25565. I am using DHCP but I have checked that the ip hasn't changed.

Solution
Many will show you the ip on the wan port configuration screen. It is hard to say it varies greatly but most have some way to display the ip you are using.
Pretty much if it matches the sites like whatsmyip that tell you the ip you are using you are good. If it is different then some device is translating it.
Since that router has a ethernet port for its wan port I assume you have some other device/modem in the house you are plugging it into. If that other device is actually a router then you must port forward in both. You could try to plug you PC directly into the "modem" and see what if any ports are open. If it is a dumb modem it should not block anything and the program should see ports on your PC. If not then you need to check to see if the modem has a way to block ports or worst case the ISP is doing something. Some ISP especially wireless broadband have gone to using private ip addresses which mean they have a NAT router and there is no way to port forward on those systems.

Yes, my computer is connected to the dlink router which is connected to our modem which is also a router. Computer->router->modem/router. I will try to port forward on the modem. Do you happen to know if at&t does the private ip address thing? Thanks for your reply.

Edit: So I port forwarded on the att router also but when I check the port it still says its closed. How do I see if I have a NAT modem or whatever.
