Hi, I installed my new GTX 760 about 5 days ago and now I am noticing coil whine coming from it. I'm sure that it's the card because I switched to integrated graphics for a bit and there was no noise. I can also only hear it while playing a game, and the frequency fluctuates depending on the work my GPU has to do.

Is this normal and will it damage anything in my PC? and I also read that it should go away after a while once the card "breaks in".

Thanks for any help.

PS - My specs are
i5 4690k @ stock speed
Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo
ASRock z97 Extreme4
Corsair CX600M
EVGA GTX 760 SC ACX

There is indeed every chance the coil whine will cease as the GPU components become acclimatised to their function.

Coil whine shouldn't be a cause for worry although it could be indicative of a cable close to, or barely touching a GPU fan. Inspect the inside of your case to rule this out.

One way to hasten the dissapearance of coil whine is to leave your PC on running a graphically demanding application for a long period of time. Overnight is usually best. There are many reports of the problem correcting itself after 2-3 days of this practice.

If it continues after many days of this procedure, and is genuinely annoying, you can always RMA the card with this complaint clearly stated.

My GTX 780 used to coil whine severely, but only persisted for 3-4 days, then stopped.
