I'm running a
Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB Tri-X in my part list ATM but i have a issue with it. There are allot of complaints about it having the black screen of death. I was wondering if a 770 would do me justice? If so please include the model thanks. p.s i'd still like to have the same performance on the same games without fear of black screen.

If you google PSA r9 290 black screen reddit, there is a post suggesting using two seperate cables for the two individual slots for power conecters on the card may fix, but i havent heard anything outside of that post if it works effectively. i'd really like to know.

Almost every review on newegg for every r9 series is reporting black screen. Further research and it's pretty common, and even rarer to find people who actually get one to work, without temporary fixes. As of now it seems to be the norm to go thru 1-2 even sometimes 3 cards before getting one you don't need to tweak, and even then there seems to be black screen eventually.

Some people are lucky with no problems.

I'm kind of bummed cause i too was looking at an r9 290

Actually it isn't nearly that bad.
People are many times more likely to post a review and complain if it doesn't work vs if there are no problems.
Yes there does seem to be some defective units but it isn't nearly as bad as it looks

Thank you for the pick me up. I had my heart set on this card with that performance to dollar ratio and everyone initially was recomending it saying it was great, and then i start seeing "black screen here', "black screen", 'black screen' all day while doing more research. And i was almost heart broken.
