So I've decided to play a few of my old, favorite games on my new PC. I'm looking to install Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 (Standard Edition) on my new PC, not only do I love it, but my daughter is begging to get it working on the new PC.
So I've searched for hours on how to make it compatible with W8.1 and none of the answers have worked for me. It seems like everyone else who has had a problem has resolved it.
Is my PC too new? I've tried Windows XP (SP3) compat mode and that didn't work. I've edited the options.txt file and that didn't work for me. I've ran in admin mode and have tried putting my res in options.txt. Nothing.
The game will start, go to black, and sometimes I even get a huge mouse clicker on my screen. It will then exit back out and say, "A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly." When it goes back to the desktop, the resolution is all messed up.
What could it be?

My monitor is 1920 1080. Could an HDMI cable cause it to crash? Do I switch to VGA for the game? Thanks guys.
