Blue Screen of Death - Overheating CPU?

I bought this laptop (HP Pavilion 17334) a few months ago from best buy. My God does it get the BSOD several times a day. I even took it in to the Geek Squad a week after I got it, because it was getting up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit, and getting the blue screen. They told me "we couldn't re-create the BSOD, blah, blah, blah".

I recently started using it again, and found out that the CPU gets up to 190 degrees Fahrenheit, with just having a web browser open with a few tabs, nothing else.

Is this obviously something faulty with the CPU? (Horrible thermal paste spreading, bad CPU, etc.)?

Are there any common issues with HP builds sold through Best Buy? This is really frustrating.

The processor for this notebook is the AMD A8-5550M, which is a quad core chip.

Make sure that the notebook is used on a table, and has good air flow all around it. There should be nothing blocking the air vents, and also vacuum any dirt that is on the same air vents.

It's a new and rarely used laptop. There isn't any dust blocking the vents.

Isn't 190 - 220 degrees F waaaaay too hot?

120F (49C) is nothing to worry about.

But 190F (87C) is too hot for a idle laptop. How are you measuring the temperature? Not all tools are accurate for all CPU types. Can you check the temps in BIOS? The CPU should throttle down when it gets too hot, preventing failure, but slowing the PC down.

What are the details of the BSOD?

It's Windows 8, and I'm not experienced at all with these BSOD. I'm not sure where to see the error message. It just says "your computer encountered a problem and is restarting", or something along those lines.

I am using CPUID HWMonitor to check the hardware temps. Isn't this an accurate program?

That sounds like the processor is running hot. When it goes Blue screen of death does it feel hot?

No, the bottom of the laptop doesn't feel hot. But would it? The CPU is such a small component sitting on the mobo. Would you actually feel that heat through the laptop?

Yes, if the processor is hot you will feel it through the case on a notebook.

Isn't CPUID HWMonitor a reliable and accurate program?
