Buying first gaming computer

Hi, I'm finally buying my first gaming pc off of cyberpower, for $900 are these specs good?
CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-4690 3.50 GHz 6MB LGA1150 [-80]
HDD: 1TB SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 32MB Cache 7200RPM HDD (Single Drive)
MEMORY: 8GB (4GBx2) DDR3/1866MHz Dual Channel Memory (ADATA XPG V2)
MOTHERBOARD: ASRock Z97 Pro4 ATX w/ Intel GbLAN, 2 PCIe x16, 2 PCIe x1, 2 PCI, 1 x M.2, 6x SATA 6Gb/s (All Venom OC Certified)
SOUND: HIGH DEFINITION ON-BOARD 7.1 AUDIO
VIDEO: XFX Double D AMD Radeon R9 280 3GB GDDR5 PCIe 3.0 x16 Video Card [+13] (Single Card)

It is a solid gaming build.. But i suggest you go for the i5-4690k as it can be overclocked

If you can afford it, get an additional SSD as the boot drive.

very solid build would reccomend switching the graphics to a different brand XFX pretty much sucks mostly, its just the cheapest card definatly worth the extra $40 $75 to get that extra 10% fps increase :)

would an AMD Radeon R9 270X be better? i can get that for the same price as the XFX

THe r9 280 is a stronger card. I personally haven't had any problems with XFX cards so I'm fine recommending them.

na dont downgrade try to upgrade a 280 is stronger than a 270, i just mean if theirs's an asus option or evga or sapphire r9 280 try and get them :)

none of those options are available, the build comes with a 270x with a free upgrade to the 280, so i should stick with the 280?

okay thanks! any other pointers? i mainly want to play games like starcraft 2, diablo 3, skyrim etc.

Those games will do fine on the system you're looking at.

If you're not planning on having a second graphics card, or getting an overclocking CPU in the future, a H97 motherboard would do fine. And it'll probably be cheaper, if one is offered.

nope solid build if your only looking at playing at 1080p :)  should handle most things very well hope you enjoy, best of luck

Okay thanks, this was the stock motherboard, and pretty much the cheapest one offered
