Hello everyone. I have been window-shopping for parts to upgrade my current computer to a 6 core cpu build and was wondering about ram requirements. I've read that x79 features quad-channel memory support, but I don't know whether or not high speed ram is necessary to take advantage of it.
I would be getting a six-core system with purely gaming in mind and am not necessarily interested in paying more for higher ram speeds or more ram sticks if it won't translate into noticeable improvement while gaming.
With that in mind, do I really need to get a quad channel kit or ram over 1600mhz?
