So i have this two year old laptop i was going to try to use as the client for steam in-home streaming. Before i do that, though, i wanted(and still want) to create a Bootable USB for ChromeOS just to make sure that everything was functional and that it would be able to handle 1080P video streaming. This is where i encountered my first problems.

I looked at the tutorials online and they all pointed to using the Windows Image Writer to put ChromeOS on the flash drive with an image from http://chromeos.hexxeh.net/ and change the BIOS to boot from USB and just boot with the USB in the damn thing. When i try this i the white screen and the chromium logo to come up(very choppy animation), then i just get a black console type screen where i can type anything but hitting enter gets no response other than a line break from the computer, or sometimes just a black screen.

So then i looked further into more options online thinking the images from the site were the problem and got an image from http://arnoldthebat.co.uk/wordpress/chromium-os/ (when flashing the USB I always have it on NTFS if thats the problem) and tried again, but got this: http://i.imgur.com/p9k9AlC.jpg error this time. I tried both of these options with a formatted HDD plugged in with the same results.

So then i figured i would just try something ive been successful with before and put Ubuntu on the HDD from the USB. Unfortunately, this http://i.imgur.com/1AqQgXZ.jpg) error persists.

Then, thinking the HDD was the problem, i tried another one that had been functional a few months ago in a older computer of mine that i upgraded from. All the errors stayed the exact same. so then i figured it might be a problem with the laptop and decided to try both the ChromeOS and Ubuntu processes on the older computer with the same two HDDs. Here http://imgur.com/a/RcKDx) are the errors that persist here, one pic from each HDD. They were the same errors for each OS. And here http://i.imgur.com/8Bk8wqS.jpg is the result of trying to boot from ChromeOS USB with no HDD whatsoever in it.

THEN, i figured it was the USB drive so i tried the Ubuntu process again with the new USB and same exact problems persist.

Finally, i tried the same exact Ubuntu process on my new computer(same HDD's because i dont want to replace everything on my SSD) and got the same exact error. So what i gathered from this is the following: The boot files are fine, the flash drives are fine, and its not something with the computers themselves. Is it the hard drives? if so, why would the error for both of them be the exact same?

what else could it be? i mean, the HDDs being the problem makes sense, but then why would i not be able to just boot off of just the ChromeOS USB with no HDD in either computer? The only OS i have functional right now is Win8 i cant get any other OS going right now so all my resolutions must be done either in there or in the BIOS of the laptop/old computer. Sorry if this is the wrong category to post this but i couldnt find a better place.

Solution
OP please give LinuxLiveUSB creator a try, never failed me! (hint: you need to 'run as administrator' privlages for these tools to work)
http://www.linuxliveusb.com/

Basically all it does automatically for you:
1)format usb drive as fat32
2)download iso
3)copy iso to usb
4)install syslinux bootloader

http://rufus.akeo.ie/ also works well.
