Overheating CPU cause of all my woe?

Hey peeps of Tom's hardware. So I built my gaming rig about a year and a half ago - 2 years ago. Worked fine for a while, but it seems it has always plagued me with crashes, bsod's, and so many errors I lost count. I recently just got into Wildstar and am just loving the game, but it is almost unplayable for me because of the crashes. It will sometimes crash to desktop without a window, sometimes bsod on me, and sometimes crash to windows with an error. They seem to be memory related errors.

Anyway, I was in need fort a new GPU so I thought that might do the trick, so I installed a fresh new Duel-X R9 270. But still get the crashes. So I dug deeper, read some forums, and installed prime95 and CPUID HW monitor. Ran the test for about 5 mins, crashed my pc. Ran it a few more times and it either blue screened me or prime95 would crash. Looks like my temps on my CPU were getting up around 80-97 Celsius. And I'm sure that's too hot.

I removed my heat sink above my processor and cleaned the areas with alcohol and reapplied new heat paste, pretty sure I got the heat sing back on correctly, but I donno.. Never done this before. So ran another test and temps rose up this time not till about 15 mins, then crash. This morning I'm redoing the test and my temps are fluctuating high and low, but the test or my pc hasn't crashed yet, been going on 45 mins now.

Not sure what to do now, I think my temps are still too high, hovering around the 80's right now. I'll attach a few screen shots of the monitor.

My system is:

Motherboard - Asus P8 Z77-V LX
Processor - Intel core i5 - 3570k
GPU - Radeon Duel-X R9 270
RAM - Kingston Vengeance 4gig x2
OS - Windows 7 64 bit
Hard Drive - Kingston 120 gig SSD

Really appreciate it if someone could help me out..

Edit: Ok, prime95 just crashed about 50 mins into test... Now my idle temps are around 44-50... And I can't seem to find a way to attach these pics...

Do you by any chance have any overclock on your CPU? If yes, or not sure, just reset CMOS by removing the battery on your motherboard for a minute, and place it back.
Also, what cooler do you have on your CPU? Is it the default one?
If yes, maybe there`s a problem to it, or your room is too hot for it to cool your CPU properly.
Could you buy a new one? The Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo is a pretty good and cheap one, if you will not do extreme or any overclocking.

When applying the new paste, did you check any tutorials? Did you apply only a pea size amount? If you put too much, you will not get proper cooling.

What PSU do you have, it would be good to rule that out.

Yea I did run memtest86 a while ago, ran all night no errors. Also I tried gaming with each stick at a time, same deal.. I've never overclocked my CPU, but when I get home I will do a reset like you said. And yea, just the standard default cooler on it, If all else fails I could def look into the one you mentioned thanks! And I think I may have applied too much paste, I put like maby 2 or 3 peas on there... I will re paste when I get home too.. Yea K6-II I skimmed thru that article, but I will read it in more depth later on today.

But would that be causing my issues do you think? My CPU over heating I mean? Is the temps too hot? If this has been happening almost from the start of my new build, could something be faulty or not installed correctly?

Thanks for the input guys!

750w should be more than enough I would have thought. I'm running a stock cooler on a 4670k at stock speed and after a while I have seen temps in the low 90's when running prime so I thought it was worth asking. I think you are right though that heat could well be the issue here.

So your running in the 90s as well during prime? I figured that was much too high. Maby thats not my issue then.. I'm getting so frustrated with pc gaming as a whole. I've had nothing but issues ever since I built this rig. All I can really play is WoW and older games, and games that are not very graphic intensive. Anyone else have any ideas or tests I can run?
