PC Reboots when GPU is under stress

Hello,

The problem I am facing is that when I put the GPU under stress (either through Furmark or playing a simulator like X-Plane) the computer seems to reboot shortly afterwards. It has reached the point where now Furmark barely lasts 2-3 seconds, and, on X-Plane, I can't even configure the plane for take-off properly.

There are, however, no reboots when I am running on integrated graphics.
Please note that I don't have any friends who build/assemble computers (I'm 14), and I have no spare PSUs or GPUs that are of similar power.

My temperatures are fine; when the Furmark tests ran properly and the I could play X-Plane the GPU temp never exceeded 70°C, and the CPU temp stayed around 50-55°C (I have a very aggressive fan cooling policy that increases the fans to maximum very early).

My specifications:

CPU: Intel i7-4770K (not i7-4790K)
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 770 Windforce 3X (GK104, 4GB)
RAM: Corsair (Vengeance) CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 (2x, 4GB, DDR3-1600, DIMM)
Motherboard: ASUS Z87-PRO (not Z97)
Storage: Seagate Desktop SSHD (1000GB, 3.5")
Power Supply: Corsair AX860i
BitFenix Recon Fan Controller (only used to control front intake fans, rest are controlled by Asus Fan Xpert)
4 chassis fans, 9 fans in total

Looking at the forums here, I have tried the following:

1. Run MemTest86. It has passed with no errors and 4 out of 4.
2. Swapped RAM from my earlier build (the RAM model is exactly the same)
3. Taken out my GPU and run Furmark on integrated graphics. As I said above, this solved it but the integrated graphics are obviously terrible compared to the GPU.
4. Changed various settings in the BIOS, such as switching off Turbo Boost. I have, also, switched off ASUS Anti-Surge after a number of what I think were false positives.
5. Checked Corsair Link many times. I have both windows open every time I run Furmark, and I notice that the power consumption obviously spikes up, but I don't know how much since Corsair Link only managed to refresh the statistics once after the Furmark test starts and the computer shuts down.
6. I have done short (only short) tests on Blend with Prime95. There were no errors.

I'm currently suspecting that I have a problem with the PSU.

Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry to hear about your problem chetan8905, and yes, I also think that the PSU is the most likely culprit. If your warranty is still valid, you should RMA the PSU ASAP, because a bad PSU can cause serious damage to your entire system. Also, I would recommend keeping the 770 away from the system until the PSU is replaced.

Thank you everyone. It would be great if I could choose solution for every answer, but I'm going to choose PlayerTwo's because it's the most in-depth.

I've started the RMA process and I'm shutting off my build now and taking out the GPU.

Again, thank you very much.

You're most welcome chetan8905, having had my fair share of PSU problems, I can empathize. I hope your problem gets resolved soon, there's nothing more frustrating for a gamer, than a high-end system not working properly. :(
