Why is my computer getting slower???

Yesterday i bought a desktop, windows 8, it was running amazingly fast, everything is so smooth, an multitasking is great, so i downloaded couple of programmes, that i need,( updated my graphics drive / skype / downloaded Synapse for my Razer keyboard ) after that, i download kaspersky internet security, everything was good, and all folders and programmes start so quick, and then i shut down, today i turn on my PC, it takes a short time to boot, almost 1 minute and it's ready to use, good i know, but that's not it, when i sign in the computer, opening files and programmes, and going from windows 8 menu to the desktop, all of them take more time than it used to when i first used it, is my PC starting to break up already? please help i spent a lot on this thing!


Specifications:
Intel core i7 4770k
GTX 770 4GB
16GB ram G.skill
WD Purple 1TB HDD
Liquid cooling (cooler master )for my processor, my desktop is so cold, so this is not the problem :)
using wireless mouse, and Razer DEATH STALKER ULTIMATE keyboard
Asus maximus VII hero motherboard

One other thing is your HD is designed for "surveillance" applications and is designed to maximize write and specific read / write patterns common to surveillance drive performance rather than desktop / workstation drives which are designed to maximize read performance. The WD Purple has an extremely slow response time.

I haven't done the comparisons as yet but it may even be slower than the WD Blue (next to the bottom, 63rd place on THGs HD charts)

Each program you started likes to add start-up routines so that before you even start the program, a good part of it is already loaded. This makes the user thing that when they actually launch the program, it appears snappy. Other subroutines are loaded at start up to run in the background, such as your AV / Anti-Malware program (which should have been the first thing you loaded BTW).

Start Task manager to see what's running, web search every process listed to see what it does if you don't know already and decide whether you want it. Run msconfig to eliminate startup items that you don't want or use a tiny lil applet called Start-Up Control Panel written by Mike Lin. Just uncheck what you don't want.

BTW, the Hero (all Asus Z87 / Z97 boards) has a bug you should watch out for where the BIOS clock freezes.

It gets triggered by using certain BIOS functions, crashes or overclocking and is inconsistent. If it happens to you, follow the instructions in the 1st post of that thread, they are only temporary though. Asus announced a BIOS fix on June 11 but it hasn't appeared yet.

Is windows update downlaoding updates or installing them? Also an ssd is always a better option for a boot drive then an hdd as this happens with hhds. Also maybe kaspersky is doing something?
My reply got messed up so retry :p

If this is brand new and wasn't a demo. Then it is a common effect when turning on a "fresh" computer. :)

It is the anti-virus, which checks every action you take, to scan for virus activity. The scaning takes time, hence the system slows down overall.

Edit: You can manually configure the AV to reduce its operation for a compromise between security and responsiveness.

A new system - hence a new windows, runs always slower in the 1st 1-2 weeks. The windows itself has to index everything on the hard drive, so it will run faster later. This is not noticeable on SSDs, but on hard drives it is extremely annoying. Depending on the priority windows has set for it - it might feel very slow to browse through your own files sometimes. And specifically since you installed a lot of stuff, that has to be indexed as well.

Usually when I was running only HDD, I would force windows to index the stuff, and just leave it for several hours. Indexing in the background might slow your work, but it is a necessary evil. Download Auslogic Disk Defrag, run a defrag&optimize, give a rest for a week and you will be fine. Cheers.

P.S Also I noticed that every time I would change something in the BIOS, Windows boot from an HDD would significantly slow down for a day or 2. After that is all fine.
