IT Quiz Prizes

Hello community!

Thank's for helping me with such patience and giving simple and to the point answers, I was able to finalize my 3k gaming and VFX development rig.
I now need another help from you guys, but this one is not about PC builds or related issues. I along with my classmates of college (almost the whole collegemates actually) are organizing an IT Quiz in the 3rd week of August.
We've collected $2 registration fee from each participating team (consisting 2 studs) and have collected about $400 so far, which one can say is the final collection, considering the entry date expires this Friday.
We'll have ~200 teams, and we'll select top 6 via prelims. Then the finals amongst the top 6 and 1st, 2nd and 3rd will be declared.

The help that I need is in deciding the goodies and gifts that we'll be giving. I'm part of the team conducting the quiz so I won't take part (of course).
Important info to keep in mind: total budget for combined cost of all goodies/ items: $400
Some gift for each of top 6, preferably the combined cost should be ~$100
$100+ prize for winners.
$75+ for 1st runners up.
$50+ for 2nd runners up.
Some goodies for 2 to 3 audience questions, preferably combined cost for those answers $30 or less.
Total should not exceed $400 by 5 or 10 bucks.
Various types of goodies like pendrive, earphones, PC mouse, mouse pad, phones goodies like SD card, compact speakers, etc are preferred over big goodies like HDDs, SSDs, etc- simply because we all are VFX or more wholly IT studs and have our own PC/ lappy with HDDs , SSDs etc.
I know this kind of question is maybe stupid but I know this community's helpful and I hope to get some good combinations for all gifts or for even one of them!

EDIT: Big goodies are welcomed for winning teams.

the sennheiser 558 headphones are well respected for gaming and while they dont have the wide open soundstage of their older brother the hd598 they do however pack a bit more in the low end. the corsair k70 is one of the most well known and sought after gaming keyboards and is a great choice for anyone wanting a mechanical. i would use cherry browns to please most people. the orbweaver pad is certainly very nice and the difference between it and the tartarus is that it has mechanical keys and has more buttons. while certainly not for everyone, it certainly is nice for some.

my personal choice would be either the hd598 or ath-m50 (i own an my50 myself)

$75
while i dont know a whole lot about the ad500x since i'm used to dealing...
Here's what we've thought of giving away:

Audience all 3(each): Micro SD Card (16 GB from Samsung, Sandisk, Kingston, etc)

All 6 finalists(each): 16 GB Pendrive (HP, Sandisk, etc) + In ear earpiece (Skullcandy, Sony, etc)

2nd Runners up: SSD (64 GB from Sandisk, Kingston, etc)

1st Runners up: Wireless keyboard (HP, Logitech) + Gaming headsets (Turtle beach, Logitech, Razer, etc)

Winners: AC router (Netgear, Linksys, TP LINK, D LINK, etc) + FHD Webcam (Logitech, Microsoft, etc)

How's it? Do you think there's anything else which we can replace from the above?

honestly most of your giveaways you listed above seem a bit "standard fare" to me but since you are the host... it is your choice.

Thanks for the inputs kanewolf and ssddx.
I was expecting such an awesome response from some or the other member, thanks ssddx!

Now we're full of ideas. You're right, the giveaways we chose were a bit too mainstream.
Here's what we'll most probably select from, I can't select everything on my own, will have to take approval from some other members too (which they'll give).

$100: sennheiser hd558 or corsair k70 mechanical keyboard or razer orbweaver gaming pad
-I'm in love with that gaming pad!

$75: audiotechnica ad500x or noctua nh-d14 cpu cooler
-The Headphone is sexy but many people will be more than wanting to own that cooler!

$50: 128GB flash or external HDD or Audio-Technica ATH-M30
-The studs will love some extra space!

$30 and below: T shirts or MTV Fashion Tronix earphones or Logitech mouse
-The earpiece are trending but the mouse is a good option

I think, all top 6 should get a pendrive or SD card (16 GB) with some funky game pad.

There're 2 confusions in my mind.

Headphones or cooler for $75?

Earphones or mouse for $30?

while i dont know a whole lot about the ad500x since i'm used to dealing with the slightly higher up versions the ad700x and ad900x it is a good choice for a budget gamer looking for headphones. the nh-d14 is perhaps the best cooler on the market (or it was at once time) however it is also a monstrosity.

my personal choice in this category would be the razer deathadder (i own the 3.5g older model), proteus core (i'm trying one out right now) or the tartarus if you dont get the orbweaver for the top slot (i'm trying one of those out right now as well).

$50
i dont think you can go wrong with either of those. i will say that since i own the m50s and gifted a pair of m30s that there is quite a leap between the two and how i am much happier with the m50s myself. however the recipient loves the m30s since he has never had "good" headphones before. they are built like tanks.

my personal choice here would be a 128gb flash drive.

$30/-
tshirts are always good however the trouble is sizing. i'm not sure if you could all fit in the same size shirts. i'm not so sure on the idea of fashion tronix myself but your choice. i own a logitech m505 and it goes everywhere my laptop does. the logitech wireless mice for laptop use are durable and have a rather hefty battery life. mine must be a year old and i've never replaced the batteries.

my personal choice would be a mousepad or mouse.

-

if you want to give everyone who wins something extra, then perhaps the best thing would be a $10 gift certificate to a site like amazon, newegg or if you really want to geek out on them frozencpu (they have some awesome things there).

or, you could give them all 32gb usb3.0 microcenter brand flash drives which are $13 each (16gb are $8)

Thanks for the reply, was really informative.

I was discussing with my buddies before I read your reply, and I think we've come up with similar conclusions as yours:

$100: The ATH-M50, as HD598 is a bit out of budget. The M50 looks stylish and modern while HD looks rather classy and royal. we're going with M50.

$75: Razer Deathadder, this mouse is a solid gaming mouse, deal done!

$50: The 128GB flash is the best viable option so we're not opposing to it in any way.

$30: The M505 is a good choice, however out of budget. So we're going for Logitech M510 Wireless Mouse.

And a all participants winning something get a $10 coupon from Amazon.

We're a bit over-budget but no worries, the host group will contribute $5 each, so a few easy bucks there! Also, we get peripherals around 10% less than online price due to us being part of our university buying scheme, from a particular retailer, of course.

We're good to go now :D

the m505 is an older model. i think its replaced with the m525. it was only a $25 mouse. the m510 looks to be fairly similar but with two extra side buttons which could be useful. a solid choice nonetheless

the m50 is more suited towards music than gaming due to its closed nature and rather small soundstage. if you wanted to target gamers the hd558 might be a better choice however if you wanted to target bassheads or music listeners then the m50 is certainly very solid. i've had mine for years and they are built like tanks. one word of note though: the earcups are a bit on the small side so may not fit larger ears well.

it seems like you have a pretty interesting lineup for prizes and for a $2 entry fee i'd be happy to get any of them if i was a contestant over there.

Ok there was only one change, The M50 got swapped with HD558 as they're a bit more cheaper and also, as you said, we got a junk of music monkeys dying for good bass.

Thanks! I hope others like this quiz(and prizes) too, wish me luck for hosting my first quiz as quizmaster :)

just a clarification:

i said the m50s were bassy. great sounding headphones however a small soundstage so its not quite ideal for gaming.
the hd558 has some bass but nowhere near what the m50 has. it however has a wider soundstage good for gaming.

the red m50 is $105 while the black is $120. however, you can find open box but brand new blacks on ebay for $100

completely your choice but it seems you got what i said about the models flip-flipped :)

Oh I got the prices all wrong.
The M50X cost about $160, too high.
The M50 costs $100-110, good for our budget.
The HD558 around $110-120, on the edge but we can buy.

We'll get them at around $150, $100 and $105 respectively.

I was constantly comparing the HD with M50X, not the M50, my bad. I jumbled things up.

We were looking for a good bass heavy headsets as gaming headsets are not that rare here.
Also, there're many music buffs so they'd get a good companion.

I guess we should switch back to ATH M50 (Not the M50X) right? Just to make sure they're the right kind (bass heavy).

to clarify the models:

ath-m50 - has a short coiled cord
ath-m50s - has a long straight cord
ath-m50x - is the new version with removeable cords. it comes with a straight short, straight long and coiled short cables.

there is supposed to be some improvements in the x design however from what i've heard they are basically the same thing.

i personally have the m50s (with the long straight cord) and while the cord is definitely abit long (i normally coil it up on the desk next to me) it is also very nice and comes in handy when you need to reach just a bit farther. its also less obtrusive then the coiled one.

you can see my set by looking at my photos by clicking "build" in my signature.

---

if you want something to please bassheads on a budget of $100-120 then yes i'd swap back to the m50s.
