Hi, I have an old computer with an Asus M3N78-VM mobo that i want to connect to my HP V1910-16g switch. The switch has already other computers working correctly, but when I connect the cable the computer says that there is no network cable plugged. What i dont understand is that if i connect that computer directly to another one, the ethernet immediately recognizes the connection. I am no expert, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Seems like you are using a crossover cable designed to connect 2 pc's together. Get another cable and try it. Cross over cables are usually orange.

thanks bob, but the connectors are transparent and comparing the cable color scheme between them, it's a straight cable. Plus I think the HP V1910 automatically detects and adjust the port if the cable is a crossover one. The thing is that while the computer boots the LED on the switch blinks normally but as soon as Windows start it goes down. I hooked in a cheap pcie network adapter to the computer and with the same cable the connection to the switch functions perfectly well. The drivers for the Nforce Controller on the mobo are up to date. So, any ideas?
