My current system spec is listed in my signature below and after doing some homework, I am considering upgrading to following spec.
CPU: Devil's Canyon i5-4690K $199.99
MOBO: ASRock Z97 Fatality $124.99
GPU: ASUS GTX 760 $249.99
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 120mm
I mostly use it as gaming rig playing CPU intensive games such as World of Warcraft. I know i5-4690K is overkill but I want to play it at ultra settings smoothly and some future proof for newer games. But I will never play any GPU intensive games such as Crysis or Battlefield.
1) Coming from i7 930, is this a good time for upgrade? Did I select decent(best) products compared to the similarly priced products? I have money and I can easily afford i7 4790K but none of what I do really benefits from hyperthreading. i7 is only $80 more at Microcenter.
I am pretty much new to OCing CPU. But I am going to try OC for the first time mainly because I heard Devil's Canyon CPUs are made to be OCed very easily with one-click. I am not looking to OCing the CPU to its maximum potential. Just casual OC for medium performance upgrade.
2) I am thinking of OCing my CPU to about 4.2 GHz. Did I choose right CPU fan? If not, what would you recommend? Should I need additoinal fans(case and etc)?
3) Does i5 4690K have better OC room and stability compared to i7 4790K?
4) Did I choose right MOBO? Does it provide one-click easy to OC utility? I chose this MOBO mainly because it offers Express Data and .M2 feature with decent price. I will always use single GPU, so no SLI or Crossfire support needed.
5) Can I use 2 of my current RAM and put it on to new MOBO? My Corsair Vengeance 4GB, CMZ12GX3M3A1600C9, is not listed as supported RAM for the MOBO i selected. I will also add 2x 2GB Corsair Dominator, TR3X6G1600C8D. So I will have 4gb,4gb,2gb,2gb to have total 12GB RAM. Will this be OK? Is it possible to put 4gb,4gb,4gb,2gb setup?
6) I am considering upgrading my wireless network by going to 2.4Ghz to 5.0Ghz. I did some research but I want to know in general which one goes through home walls better? I already know some of the benefits 5.0Ghz usually offer.
Your help will be greatly appreciated!
