Re installed windows 7 and have to internet connections

So I re installed windows 7 from a usb drive using a Windows 7 iso I got offline.I got everything running but when it asked for a product key, I skiped that part. After logging on, I found that I have a red X across the internet bar. I tried installing drivers to fix this but no luck. Do I need a validation code for the internet to work? What other problem could it be?

No you do not need a validation code are you connecting with wireless of through ethernet cable. Either way it points to a driver issue, you may have grabbed the wrong one.

Wireless and this is the driver I tried after reading some forums of people having the same problem.

Are you on a laptop, if so which one? If not, what wireless adapter are you using? You should be able to get all the drivers from the manufacturer website.

I have an alienware m11x laptop. I tried the manufactures website but couldn't seem to find the right one
