Hi, i going to be doing my first build, and I was recommended a xfx r7 radeon 260x. The 1gb version fits my budget, butwould there be a noticeable difference if I upgraded to the 2 GB version ? Here are the specs I plan to have: Intel Pentium g3258 cpu,MSI 787 g41 motherboard, crucial ballistix sport 1x4gb (will upgrade this with another identical module when I have enough money).

Solution
Adding additional RAM modules can cause issues. There's a reason manufacturers sell them in kits when you want a given amount of memory with multiple DIMMs. Just an FYI.

In regards to the VRAM question, 1 GB should be fine for most gaming at 1080p, but if you're looking to run at higher resolutions, you want at least 2 GB for 2k and 4 GB for 4k, iirc.

If you are gaming at 1080p, 1 GB should be enough. 2 if you are doing a multiple monitor setup

Vram does not make a card perform faster. It's help with heavy textures in a game.
what is your budget?
Roughly £300 for the whole build. I'm only 13 though, so my resources are limited. ATM I have budgeted £70-£80 for gpu

Here you go a build for less than £300. If I put the ram at 8GB, then it will go over your budget by £9

I believe he does need an OS

An OS is only an extra 52 quids (for Windows 7).

Quid?

OP mentioned he's 13 years old, so getting that extra 52 quid won't be that easy.
I didn't add in the OS, not because I forgot. His parent can get it for him.
Also I had made a mistake with the optical drive. That is just a DVD ROM and not a writer
Updated with DVD Writer

Look, i'm 14 and your parents don't just, "get" you an OS. Just because you might be a bit richer than some of us and your parents just give you money doesn't mean that that applies here. I've been saving up for a pc since I was 12 and I still haven't been able to reach the $200 mark yet. I don't want you to take this comment in a negative way, i just want you to know that times are tough for about 75% of the world right now and I believe OP is not an exception with such a small budget. I hope you understand.

When I was 14, I didn't even have a computer. It was almost towards the end of high school when I got my very first PC. Have you talked to your parent about it and see if they can help you find a part time job, so you can earn some money for your new computer. Also try asking your school to help you find a part time job. maybe they have through some special program or something. Well that's what I did, so my parent really didn't give me money, I earned it myself to buy my very first computer. :)
About OP's budget, the reason why I mentioned his parent can get it for him is, first of all he's only 13 and for a 13 year old who has £300 to spend on a new computer is impossible. £300 isn't US dollars that is £300 pounds, converting £300 pounds to US Dollars comes out to about $500. A 13 year ld with $500 to spend, where do you think he gets his money from? Who knows maybe he has a part time job and earn it, or maybe through allowance or given to him during holidays or birthdays?
If OP at that age has that much on his own, then maybe asking his parent to buy the OS for him, won't be a problem.

Again, i'm 14, and I can't just waltz into a place and ask for a job. They have some pretty strict age limits here. Anyways, we are not focusing on my problem, we are focusing on his. As he said, he has been saving up. Also, just because of the currency issue, we shouldn't think of pounds as dollars. I should know because I lived in Pakistan for one year and if you keep on thinking about how the PKR is so small and it can never amount to many dollars, you will never get something done. But all of that aside, we know he has a budget problem and he can use Ubuntu. Problem solved. here is a build without an OS.
