Hello tomshardware community,
I have a radeon hd 6850 1gb graphics card and when i tried to play bf3 while waiting the max payne 3 installation to complete i got a black screen than pc frooze. When i restarted the pc something strange happened. Monitors orange light turns blue as expected but it says no display goes to power save mode than the light goes orange again. After i restarted couple of times i get a shattered display of blue screen error . I had an old nvidia geforce 7200gs 128mb so i put it instead of radeon and pc worked. So is my graphics card dead ? Is there anything i can do to save it ?

What are your system specs? A advice never run a game and install anything in the back. The only way to check if your graphic card is dead or not is to check it on another PC? Have you got any spare PC or can you try your card in your friend's PC? If it gives no display or a shattered display it may be the graphic card. But i want to ask you one thing before you do all that. The geforce 7200gs is a nvidia card so it requires nvidia drivers while the radeon is amd so needs amd drivers. Did you uninstalled the nvidia drivers correctly when you first time installed the hd 6850?

My sistem specs are:
Asus m5a97 le R2.0 mobo
Amd fx 6300 3.5 ghz cpu
Hyperx 2x4 ddr3 1600 mhz ram
Samsung 250gb hdd
Western digital 180gb hdd

Before i put my nvidia card to test mobo there was no installed driver for it i installed windows a couple days ago when i first get my mobo and cpu. When i put nvidia windows recognized and installed its drivers beside ati drivers.
Here is a photo i captured when it gives shattered blue screen error. It is the only display it gives.

With my ati card i can do nothing but i can do it with my nvidia card. I couldnt test my card with my other pc because old psu didnt have power cable for the card. Is it possible that driver errors makes boot display to not show up too ?

There are some sites i found with google and some videos in youtube about graphic card ovening. Basicly you put it in a oven for 8 minutes at 190 C or 385 F and hope it will repair your card. There is a technical meaning for it but i dont know you should search :)
