I bought this http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8869861&CatId=7387

XFX Radeon R7 260X
Double Dissipation Video Card
2GB GDDR5, PCI-Express 3.0

In february of this year. It started out fine, but has progressively turned into a nightmare.

other specs:

AMD FX 6300
16 GBs ddr3 1600mhz RAM

This is being powered by an 850watt Thermaltake power supply that is less than a year old. I have swapped out PSU's and gotten the same problems.

It's not a cooling issue. It's sitting in a full Thermaltake tower with 6 fans. My temps are between 28-30c idle in a room with no A/C in the hot georgia summer of 90-100 degrees. Under load, the temps don't even crack 40c.

I've tried every driver solution possible. I've fully removed all AMD drivers inbetween driver changes. I've tried the stock drivers, beta drivers, and current release drivers.

The video card is bipolar as hell. It will work perfectly fine for days, even a full week. And then it will act up doing the most timid of tasks. Scrolling down facebook feed? BSOD. Watching a Youtube Let's Play? Randomly goes fully black screen, audio still working but can't see anything.

It actually never acts up while playing games. Only once during starcraft 2 did I get a BSOD. Everytime else, it's while doing non-stressful stuff involving browsing the internet or watching Netflix/Youtube.

My PC has been working perfectly fine for 2 years and the only change I made was upgrading from an ancient Nvidia 9800 to this AMD Card and while the graphics it can put out are beautiful, it makes my PC an actual nightmare to use. Yes, I did a full reinstallation of Windows 7 already.

I don't know what to do. Don't buy this card.

Solution

I don't know if my solution will work for you since I never had any blue screen problems with my gpu. This probably won't fix your issue but I'll just leave it here anyway.

It involves editing a config for amd overdrive. All you will be doing is changing a number to the max value it normally goes to under load. Don't attempt to do this if you don't understand it. I'm not responsible for...

There's updating the vbios and there's this easy solution that works for everyone.
Move the memory clock t0 750-850mhz. You can do it with catalyst control center. Works for me and no BSOD ever since

I have a XFX 7870 Double Dissipation with 2gb of vram. I have screen flickering issues while watching youtube, browsing webpages, and in games with low requirements that affect the 2D clocks of the gpu. My only fix is to keep the memory clocks at 3D clocks at all times.
