PSU cable issue

Hey guys my buddy is upgrading his PC and got a new PSU however there is a 10 pin on his motherbard, and the psu only has a max of 8 pin. Is there any cable that can be used in junction on his motherboard. Or will he have to et a new motherboard.

What motherboard , it may be a proprietary board , that can't use a standard ATX power supply.

Some motherboards on prebuilts like hp and DELL use proprietary power supplies specifically made for that board.

Its a lenovo motherboard it was a server that he uses as a gaming rig.

What sort of PSU and motherboard would those be? A standard ATX/SFX PSU would have a main power connector with a 20-24pin (or 20+4) connector and a secondary 4/8/4+4 pin connector for ATX12V/EPS12.

You can't use a standard ATX power supply with that server board...Sorry.

his old PSU is an AC Bell and he got a corsair RM850

Some Server boards like that one and hp Z Series is another one don't use standard ATX power supplies.

The model number for the actual motherboard would be useful... much easier than trying to guess what sort of proprietary thing your friend might have.
