Hello all. I have a problem. I am trying to install the AMD catalyst software that came with my MSI radeon HD 7770 graphics card. and while I try to install it stops and says install failed. with this message

C:\Program Files\ATI\CIM\reports\report.xml

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel.

cmi= catalyst install manager the reports show what it has installed and the report.xml looks to me in mine the system detect of the installer ... if you had a amd card in a head of this one it should of been removed when you uninstalled the driver of it you may now have to manually remove this file and the support file and try to reinstall the driver

thats the thing. I never had a card in prior I have intel integrated graphics. which I disabled. and selected the PCIE option in the BIOS. I have the Card in and running. but black screen due to not having the drivers installed. and this is what keeps happening. I'm completely lost and frustrated lol.

im just trying to install it off the CD they provided. do I simply go online and find a driver from there? i have tried downloading the catalyst on the AMD website as well and neither are working. not sure if mentioned before but I have the MSI R7770 Radeon graphics card. the afterburner one. PMD1GD5

I use the ones from amd just installed the 13.4 last night with a 7850 card

if you got to programs and features is the amd catalyst install manager showing up there ?? if so click it and run the uninstall and when it asks '' all amd stuff'' yes to that and it should remove all and its self then ask to re boot when it reboots it should go to desktop and be running on the windows standered vga driver that's built in to windows then try to install the driver you downloaded from amd

ok i'll be around some later or in the a.m I installed the 14.xx driver on this and it took me some time to remove it and stop what it caused in issues with them older 7000 cards I found that the 13.4 and the 13.12 drivers is all you need for them those 2 work just fine with this 7850

keep me posted and if I can offer any more help I do so

well I check programs and features and there isnt anything by AMD on it. just the MSI afterburner. but I do see the Intel graphics driver. should I leave that or get rid of it? trying to get the 13.12 driver to download and install to see if that works

when I run the catalyst and it asks to uninstall and remove all AMD components. should I try that and then reinstall it?

let me ask this you said the card did not work at all in windows even before you had the drivers installed ?? cause the card should work on the default standard vga driver built in to windows with out the need for the amd driver

or is it working fine until after you try to install the amd driver?

so before you try to install the amd driver and its at desktop go to device manager and display and see if it says standard vga driver if so we will move on to something next

I dont believe the drivers are installed. because during the install i get the failed message it installs very fast and then fails. when I go into device manager It shows display adapters. theres is nothing that says VGA anywhere. and under display adapters. it shows Intel (R) HD Graphics and then options to disable etc. and yes the card is in. but if I start up the coomputer with the power plugged into the card. my screen is black. it does't respond. so I have to turn off PC unplug the power to the Card. and power up again. and then screen comes to life. once the PC is on I can plug power back into card. I have the VGA cable plugged into the computer and not the card and DVI-D going to monitor from card. but that isnt working on its own.

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel."

Bios is has PCIE enabled. and if I run monitor only through card. I get nothing on monitor so I have the VGA into the PC itself. or else I have no display. If I turn on PC with the card powered and connected via DVI to monitor only. blank screen. I assumed it was because drivers werent installed. which I am unable to install because it keeps failing

go bak to where things were working and go to device manager where you said intel was showing and try this steps below

Restart your computer and return to Device Manager and the Intel's graphics properties. Check "Disabled in this hardware profile." Shut your computer down.

then hook the card up and try that it may need to be disabled there the you can proceed installing the card and driver for it

ok well I disabled intel graphics. I didnt have the exact option " disabled in this hardware profile" though. and still blank screen when I tried to run it though the card. I think I may just call the local computer store in town and maybe run it down there. I'm not very good with this stuff. maybe its just something simple we are overlooking. but the install fail part is really puzzling me
