I run Windows 7 home premium on my system. [specs at bottom of message]
I am experience problems running some games. In order to play C&C Red Alert 2 I must lower my resolution from the normal 1920x1080 to 1280x720 otherwise the game doesn't work. I had a similar problem with Supreme Commander 2. I could play it at the normal resolution but only after first lowering it to 1280x720 going into the game to max out the games resolution settings then exiting out and resetting the resolution to the optimal 1920x1080 level and restarting the game. Before I discovered the resolution trick the games simply wouldn't start. The game icon would show up on the task bar and the screen would go black for a second before going back to the desktop but the game would never start/display. Clicking on the taskbar icon would also make the screen go dark again before returning to the desktop. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a fix or am I doomed to have to fiddle with the resolution every time I wish to go back and play one of my older games?

Solution
That is normal. When the native resolution of the monitor and the resolution of the game do not match, this can happen. If you can, see if you can save your game's resolution at 1920x1080.
