Worth Waiting For NVidia 8 Series?

I am looking to build a new gaming PC as discussed in this thread.

My question now is: Would it be worthwhile waiting a few months for the 8 Series GPUs to be released, before building my PC?

My primary use for the system will be gaming and I would prefer just to stick with a GTX 780 if the new 8 Series models are likely to cost me an extra arm and a leg.

Well the 800 series is going to be a Whole new chip and not revised so you probably should wait to see the performance of them before purchasing a new card.

I heard the 1000 series is much better than the 900 series, up to 20% better 3dmark scores according to leak. Why not just wait for those? Oh, but there is also the 1100 series and the 1200 series. The 1300 series is probably the best choice. Should wait for those. 1380 ti MK II Black GHZ Edition is a beast card I heard.

If Nvidia hold true to form the 900 series will be a revised 800 series chip. Nvidia and AMD do this to get a little extra time out of there chips to develop and manufacture new chips.

Nvidia 8000's were turned into the 9000's
Nvidia GTX 400's were turned into the GTX 500's
Nvidia GTX 600's were turned into the GTX 700's

AMD's 5000's were turned into the 6000's
AMD's 7000's were turned into the 200 series. with one exception the 290's and over are a completely different chip.

So really waiting on the 900 series is really not all that logical or cost effective. Example the GTX 770 is actually the GTX 680 chip.

Personally, I'm waiting for 20nm to flush out all the current recycled re-branded designs.

You only have one month to wait for a card rumored to be about 20% faster than a GTX 780 Ti and possibly significantly cheaper as well.

The same place I can pull stats from the hypothetical 1200 series.

We all know future chips will perform better than current ones do. He was poking fun at the "upgrade now or wait to get something better later" argument: when "later" comes, something yet better still will be a few months off again... a never-ending cycle.

The 800 is not out yet but once it comes, the 900 will be on their way. When that comes, the 1000 will be just a bit further off, then the 1100, the 1200, etc. for however long Nvidia sticks to the sequence.

Worst case scenario, you can't buy the 800 series, the 700 series' price drop, at least it's better than to pay for more now than it will be in a few weeks time

PS. My information is based on the historical fact that in general next generation of GPUs are better than previous generation, otherwise they are less likely to sell.
