8GB DDR3 ram vs 12GB

I already have the ram i would like to know on a p8z77-v lx mobo would it be better to use 3 4gb sticks or just 2 4 gb sticks if there isnt a big drop in performance then ill add my extra stick in i just can find a clear answer on the web

That motherboard only runs dual-channel RAM. So 2x4GB will be faster than 3x4GB. Also, you'll never use more than 8GB in almost any tasks.

I am doing some beginner video editing on the computer to I just whant to now how big of a drop in pregormance will I see

None. You won't see a difference between 8GB and 12GB.

Try it, should be a increase in overall performance in video editing, the DRAM should run in flex mode so you'll have 8GB running in dual channel and the odd 4 in single channel mode, the extra 4GB should help out in the video even at single channel mode
