I am in the process of designing a new rig to be built in the next month or two.

I want it to be set up with 2 displays and also connected to a TV. The two displays will be used during the day for work. I then want to be able to switch video and audio over to the TV (without constantly having to re-configure resolutions etc.

Firstly, does anyone know how I would set my rig up to have at least 3 HDMI outputs

Secondly, How would i configure this to effortlessly change from 2-display setup to TV set up and back again?

Get a R7-250X or better, two DVI to HDMI adapters because the GPU usually has only one HDMI output and plug everything in. No switching required.

I think you might need to cards in crossfirex/sli or a dual graphics card to have 3 hdmi outputs. Why does it have to be hdmi? What is wrong with using dvi for monitors?

Will DVI provide same quality/ HD output and resolution for my monitors? I thought HDMI was the best quality. I was also looking for the sound to be carried by the HDMI too. But I actually have a seperate sound system for my monitor set up....So I could DVI to my monitors and then aux in my speakers......then HDMI to the TV which will carry the sound to the TV and hence play through surround sound?

Im actually happy with that as long as DVI is the same quality as HDMI... :)

Just the last question then....about easily switching from one set up to the TV? :)

Sorry, first-time noob poster here! lol

Sorry if the explanation wasnt clear....What im looking for is to have the rig connected to all 3 monitors at the same time. Work with the two monitors during the day, with somone else watching the TV.....then be able to hit a button, or a macro or something and have the audio and visual sent to the TV via HDMI, and ignore the other 2 monitors and the speakers.

What I currently do is I work off my laptop during the day with it connected to the TV, I then hit Win-P and project to screen only. All im asking is, is there an easy way to do this if im using two monitors and then want to project to the TV only - and not have to mess about with setting the resolution all the time etc....

yes, I do that all the time, I just connect a hdmi cable, but audio comes out of my laptop instead

Bearing in mind that I want all cables in place at all times..... and just change a setting, flip a switch or press a macro?

Any ideas how this would be achieved?

yeah, if it's a relatively new tv, you should be able to select the video source, so you can just change the source of the video from satellite to hdmi

Sorry, not from the TV.....Im meaning from the desktop.

Is it simply a case of Projecting my screen to the TV only.....

The problem i thought I was having here, was that I wanted 2 screens on for work (two identical monitors). I then want to have the computer Ignore the monitors and display off the TV ONLY. Then be able to switch back and have it ignore the TV and only display the monitors?

I thought since I was extending the display over 2 monitors, the computer would automatically try and use the third one as well?

I don't think that's possible, the tv one will always be showing your pc :/

With AMD's CCC, you can define more than one display setup and simply switch between the two so you could have one profile with only the TV enabled and another with only your two desktop displays enabled.

THANKYOU SO MUCH!
This is exactly what I was looking for.....that sways me towards the AMD Radeon cards then....Ill have a look at the CCC....but if i can just flick between profiles like that (possibly even configure a macro key to do that) it would be excellent.....Problem Solved!

Do you happen to know if I can also configure the audio into this....eg the two display profile plays off aux, and the TV get audio sent via HDMI?
