I have bit older mother board. My current GeForce 8800 GPU died and I wanted to replace it with something better but still supported by my motherboard. I double checked that Radeon R9 270 is supported and bought it. I installed new GPU and now when I turn PC on, there is long pause, maybe 10 or 15 sec then there is a long beep followed by 3 short beeps. Nothing on the monitor whatsoever. Any idea what should I try? Looked at BIOS and only option that seems connected to GPU was option to choose PNE or PNE-E. Tried both, none worked. My next thing is to look at power supply. If power supply is good, and I am almost sure it is, I don't know where else to look at.

I appreciate any ideas or suggestions.

Thanks.

The beep codes for the award bios (which your mobo uses) for '1 long 3 short' == no video card or bad video card. The suggested steps are to:

1) reseat the video card in the slot.
2) clear the cmos

Beyond that, make sure that you have a PSU of sufficient power to drive the card - it should have a minimum 500-550 watt supply to drive the R9-2xx series of video cards, also make sure that both PCI power cables in the card are connected properly as well. If you don't have both plugged in, the card won't work.

1) I did insert and remove the card multiple times. There was no change
2) Tried reseting CMOS. That didn't work either

The GPU (Radeon Sapphire) has only one power connector.

Could it be that my motherboard is bad? My old GeForce 8800 GT started throwing some giberish on the screen (vertical stripes, random pixels, etc..) so, I thought that GPU is wrong. Is there way to test PCI Express Slot functionality?
