  • So I just bought a new graphics card (Nvidia Geforce gt 630) and installed it, but I'm not getting any video signal. So I took it out and put the old card (I believe radeon 5450 hd or something) back in. The old card is not giving any video display now either. I also cannot use onboard graphics because I believe the onboard graphics have never worked. Weird, I know. Please help, this is my first time I've ever messed with the insides and I'm terrified that I've destroyed my whole pc.

Few other little facts, my computer was working completely fine before I took out the old graphics card, so I don't think it would be the motherboard. Also, I use my tv as a monitor and it only let's you change to a specific channel if there's a signal. When my computer is on, the channel for hdmi (which my pc is plugged into) shows up. So some sort of signal must be going to the television, just no display.

Seems like the you didn't uninstalled the amd drivers correctly and above that you installed the nvidia drivers. Are you sure you seated the card in the slot correctly? Can you try your new card in another system, like your friend's or neighbours to see if it gives display to them. To me it sounds like the motherboard that is why i want you to check your card on your neighbor's or friend pc.

I don't have another computer to try it in, but would it be the motherboard? I mean the motherboard was working before I took the old card out. Would it just break like that?

Well motherboard's provide basic display at the boot up screen. So if you can't even get to the boot up screen then the motherboard is dead. It would be very helpful if you can try your graphic card in another computer.

Try to clear the CMOS (Reset BIOS).

Shut down your computer and turn off the PSU as well. Locate the round battery on your motherboard and take it out for 30 seconds. Put it back in adn turn on the computer.

I would try using the onboard GPU first (if there is any) to test boot up.

But what would have caused the motherboard to become defective? It was working fine before.

It was most probably on his last breathes and change of card might have short circuited it.
