Is there any major difference in performance in terms of gaming? For example, Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, Crysis 3, and Arma 3?

If so, is the 4790k worth the extra money?

Thanks in advance

The 4770K has a stock speed of 3.5 with 3.9 as turbo.
The 4790K is a better binned chip with better thermals.
Stock is 4.0 with 4.4 turbo.
In theory, a 4770K can be overclocked to the same levels, but your odds are better with a 4790K

The hyperthreads of the i7 are not that important for gaming.
But the clock speed is.
An upgrade from 4770K to 4790K is not worth it.
But for a new build where the $100 premium over the i5-4690K is not important, use the 4790K
