One end of sata cable in mother board, other end nothing

So I'm planning on building a gaming pc. I am planning on getting a ssd and a main storage drive. If I wanted to prepare for the future and make it easier on myself. Could I plug one end of a sata cable to the motherboard and just leave the other end behind the case so I could just plug it into a future drive?

I do that all the time. Pick a different color for each sata data cable.
You will also need to make a sata power lead available.
