I was using my pc and i opened it to look at the harddrives. After i had put the panals back i sat down and touched the back of the pc. It shocked me and turned off. I was able to immediately turn it back on but i was wondering if it could be damaged in any way?

Solution
Probably not! But was it a static shock or an ac shock?
Static is a one time jolt that snaps and hurts your finger for a second. An ac shock is one that pulsates and keeps hurting until the power is cut!
It would help if you could give further details...JQ

If you were able to turn it back on, it should be fine. I think that hardware these days are generally designed with some shielding in mind (i.e. the motherboard is electrically disconnected from the case at its standoff mounting holes). But it probably isn't best to open the panels while operating, especially on carpet because of the static you might generate when you move around and when the bottom part of the panel rubs the carpet when you slid it off. Next time, you might accidentally touch a circuit and fry things.

Just static from your body discharging to ground on the chassis.
If you had nylon socks on or tracksuit bottoms ect and have be scuffing your feet across a carpet this will happen.
Because your body is made up of about 70% water that holds a charge.

If any electrical current reaches ground or the chassis of the case.
Then it triggers the Psu safety circuit thinking it is a short circuit of the main board or computer.
Shuts the system down to prevent any damage through load build up on a circuit.
And a possibility of the short circuit causing a fire.

Thanks for the answer! Do you think i should email the company i bough it from (cyberpower), and ask them if might be damaged in any way? I barely got it yesterday, and it has warranty.

It was a static shock.
