first time building a computer and I think I got all the components down, think it will be a moderately powerful rig, was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions or could confirm for me that everything would work together.

Motherboard- Asus maximus vii hero
cpu- Intel Core i5-4690K
gpu- XFX RADEON Double D R9 280X
ram- Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB 2x8GB DDR3 2400MHz
psu- CORSAIR RM Series RM750
case- CM Storm Stryker

I was also wondering what a good cpu heatsink would be, air not liquid cooled as I dont plan on overclocking. any help is appreciated!

if you dont plan on overclocking, then no need to get the K version CPU or an expesive CPU cooler, the stock would do just fine.
Also the PSU is more than what you need. you could spend the extra on a better graphics card
go for 8GB ram 1600, ot higher if you find them cheap.

color coded black and red, good PSU semi modular, 256SSD, and a better graphics card 290.
I added a CPU cooler but you dont really need it, but its $30 so might as well go with it.

CM hyper 212 evo is a really good choice and it costs only 30 bucks. It will keep your chip really cool and will also get you mild-medium overclocks. And stick with the k version. Because the difference between the k and non k versions is 6 bucks. And you will have more flexibility after some 2-3 years if you want higher performance and don't want to upgrade. You will then be able to OC. And even if you change your whole build in some years you could have this pc as your reserve build and OC on it for fun :D.

Thanks for the fast reply's everyone I really appreciate it. So what I can tell you all think I should get a cheaper motherboard and go for a better graphics card. I shouldn't have said I don't plan on overclocking I might get into doing that some day. And 8gb of ram is good to start with? I guess it isn't all that hard to upgrade if I need to in the future. And what is a better choice for a graphics card the r9 290 or the 780? I might use multiple graphics cards in the future depending on how the computer will perform with new games. Again any help is appreciated

Yes, a hero isn't for your needs really, 8gb is fine for gaming, r9 290 is better, but make sure you get a good aftermarket version

looks very good, you wont need thermal paste, the hyper 212 comes with paste thats good.

if you got the power supply really cheap then might as well go for it, its not that great quality but will work.

The psu isn't the best, it's not the most reliable at all, I would definitely get a new psu, it's okay for low end rigs but for higher end ones it's very dangerous, and yeah, thermal paste will help, even though the cooler comes with it already, it's better to be safe than sorry
