Today, the Radeon HD 6770m I bought arrived in the post. Upon installing the card and booting my pc, I get 2 short beeps then one long beep. After doing some research, I found that this means there is an error running the card. No big deal, I thought, i'll just put the old card (a gt 230m) back in and install the radeon drivers. I reinstalled the card and got a black screen. I reset the cmos, tried again then got the same beeps that I did when using the radeon card. I managed to get the pc to load a couple of times, but it only lasted a couple minutes before giving a couple of beeps and shutting down. What do I do?
my specs:
HP touchsmart 600-1170a
core i5 m 430
4gb ddr3 ram
gt 230m
impip m5 (e66) motherboard.
thanks

That's what I'm saying. It's not enough to have the same type of MXM card. Your best bet is to find one on Ebay, that specifically lists your exact laptop part number as compatible, or search by using the part number of your original MXM card. I always search like that for laptop parts. Like laptop mainboards, graphics cards might have different revisions, firmware changes and so on, that are not standardized even across laptops of the same brand and series.

Are you sure that the card is compatible? I have done an mxm card replacement before with the same card and from what I've read online, it's not enough to just get another mxm card. You have to check compatibility. Laptops are still not as standardized as desktops even when it comes to slots that are supposed to be an open standard.

I have done as much research as i can, and nothing says it isn't. the power is right, its an mxm 3.0 card, it even has the same number of pins on the bottom. My main concern is why i can only occasionally get the pc to boot. any ideas why?
